B.Woodgate and J.Brinkman worked into twilight to fix this problem and them to calibrate the etalon. The instrument was turned over to the observer at 21:30. At 22:00 I was having a great deal of trouble trying to get the guider to focus or even find a star. Russet was here on site and with Craig Loomis' help we got the guider to again see stars however there was now a weird vignetting pattern seen in the images. A problem report was filed. Thanks John Brinkman, Russet and Craig for your assistance! Clouds came and went, guiding correspondingly was poor or nonexistant and was good when stars could be seen. Seeing was sub-arcsec at the begining of the night and slowly degraded to 1.5 arcsec towards morning. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UC09 F I/H 21:07 21:30 Filter Wheel stepper was not working at lower control voltage UC09 G I/S 22:00 22:50 Guider was taking images but not finding stars ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 22:16 gfp -150(1158) 232 59 16.3/16.7 235 11 4303 0.87 22:44 gfp -150(1155) 241 55 16.1/16.4 233 14 4303 0.87 22:48 NA2gdr -1120(46879)241 54 16.2/16.4 211 12 R 0.68 00:50 gfp -120(1134) 229 58 14.9/15.5 272 8 4330 1.0 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 18:01 67 32 8 179 (S) 611 mstly cldy none 19:01 65 28 10 209 (SSW) 584 mstly cldy none 20:01 62 30 11 188 (S) 710 prtly cldy cirrus 21:01 60 33 13 214 (SW) 608 prtly cldy cirrus 22:01 61 33 8 222 (SW) 636 mstly cldy none 23:01 61 34 9 211 (SSW) 633 mstly cldy none 00:01 61 32 9 216 (SW) 652 mstly cldy none 01:01 59 33 8 280 (W) 813 prtly cldy cirrus 02:01 59 33 15 284 (WNW) 1365 prtly cldy cirrus 03:01 58 34 10 308 (NW) 1387 mstly clear none 04:01 57 34 10 314 (NW) 1459 mstly clear cirrus 05:01 56 35 13 317 (NW) 964 mstly cldy none 06:01 58 33 2 336 (NNW) 790 prtly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
