There was some precipitation heading out way, but it was still on the far side of the Rio Grande at twilight, so I decided it was safe to open. We were able to focus successfully, but the clouds were thick enough that the observers had trouble centering on their objects and were getting essentially nothing in their exposures. Seeing that at least one radar source was showing precipitation in the Tularosa basin, I decided to close. We didn't get any rain, but the clouds continued to thicken until after midnight, then very slowly lightened up. Shortly after 01:30 I judged that we might be able to get something done, so I reopened. Everything worked smoothly aside from the weather troubles. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:43 DISslit -150(1031) 103 54 15.5/18.1 172 10 - 1.14 20:47 NA2gdr 1430(42430) 103 54 15.6/17.9 150 13 R 0.87 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 74 25 18 224 (SW) 1434 cirrus none 17:01 67 20 8 269 (W) 1317 cirrus none 18:01 68 22 15 204 (SSW) 1563 cirrus none 19:01 65 21 13 201 (SSW) 1517 cirrus none 20:01 61 20 14 177 (S) 1911 cirrus none 21:01 60 20 11 171 (S) 1906 cirrus none 22:01 58 25 10 141 (SE) 1939 mstly cldy none 23:01 57 18 14 133 (SE) 1658 mstly cldy none 00:01 57 20 9 147 (SSE) 1653 mstly cldy none 01:01 59 20 6 174 (S) 1576 cirrus none 02:01 59 25 5 183 (S) 1883 cirrus none 03:01 58 27 6 171 (S) 1835 cirrus none 04:01 56 22 7 175 (S) 1927 cirrus none 05:01 58 26 6 175 (S) 1893 cirrus none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
