At 21:30 the observers noted a problem that John B. quickly tracked down to a crashed icc for grim. After rebooting the icc and restarting the mc some very strange behavior appeared. Commands sent from the observers grim scripts were commanding DIS. Apparently when the mc is rebooted the default instrument is set to DIS and the observers scripts did not specify an instrument type. This corrected we discovered that the same was true for the image file format. The default image format was not fits but iraf. Both problems required phone calls to C.Loomis. A short time after this was straightened out the observer requested an instrument change. After the instrument change back to grim at the program change we could not located either the standard or GRB with grim even though pointing seemed fine to catalog stars. After awhile we just gave up and switched instruments to DIS. The afterglow was quite a bit fainter and the signal to noise after the first exposure quite low. At this time clouds thick enough to make further observation quite difficult. At 03:30 we just gave up because cloud cover was far to thick for this faint object. At 04:00 I did am instrument change back to Spicam for the program change back to JH01. The rest of the night went by without incident and the skies cleared around 04:30. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- JH01 G I/SH 21:30 21:40 Grim ICC crashed JH01 G I/S 21:40 22:10 Users script missing info ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:23 NA2gdr 0(48000) -41 67 5.3/6.3 164 12 R 1.3 22:47 SPIcam -200(585) 103 67 4.6/4.2 174 14 i' 0.7 01:01 dis-slit -50(497) 290 61 4.8/4.2 178 14 - 0.92 01:28 NA2gdr 1823(42823) 265 50 4.6/4.0 179 13 clear 1.08 04:28 SPIcam 0(787) 216 61 5.8/4.3 277 6 i' 0.72 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 53 1 13 224 (SW) 570 lt.cirrus none 17:01 51 3 17 221 (SW) 636 lt.cirrus none 18:01 51 0 5 193 (SSW) 687 lt.cirrus none 19:01 43 1 6 147 (SSE) 740 lt.cirrus none 20:01 42 -5 12 156 (SSE) 818 prtly cldy none 21:01 43 -8 11 182 (S) 855 prtly cldy none 22:01 39 2 12 182 (S) 841 prtly cldy none 23:01 40 -1 14 175 (S) 888 clear none 00:01 41 -7 15 178 (S) 1002 clear none 01:01 41 -1 13 177 (S) 912 clear none 02:01 39 0 8 178 (S) 991 prtly cldy none 03:01 39 -2 6 181 (S) 974 mstly cldy none 04:01 42 -7 4 267 (W) 1210 mstly cldy none 05:01 42 -4 1 340 (NNW) 1252 clear none 06:01 46 -10 11 319 (NW) 2383 mstly clear none 07:01 46 -6 6 322 (NW) 2443 mstly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
