As part of the cleanup work in the IL, the electricians rewired the fire alarm sensor which had been disabled for their work, but upon enabling that zone of the alarm system, the alarm was tripped without evident reason. Time for completing checkout was lost as we awaited work from Mark on whether to continue operating with the IL zone of the alarm system disabled. In the meantime, although the dust counts went over the closure limit around sunset, I kept the enclosure open to continue cooling the telescope since the humidity was low (12%). The alarm problem was resolved just before 21:00. I did test slews and then handed the telescope over to Jon. Clouds thickened during this time, but we remained open. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Widespread cirrus thickened after midnight until the moon was barely visible, and the dome was closed for a period. When the clouds thinned again, we re-opened for continued attempts at science. Tonight marked the first remote use of the TUI (Telescope User Interface -- the next-generation telescope control program) for normal observations, because the observers had trouble connecting through Remark. The experiment was quite successful, with only a few minor points of confusion. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NM01 S T/H 20:29 21:00 IL fire alarm sensor failure ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:18 NA2gdr 254(49254) 245 67 9.3/9.5 266 8 clear 0.78 22:31 SPIcam -130(885) 263 52 9.0/8.7 244 12 I 0.91 00:41 SPIcam -160(800) 121 68 7.9/8.2 258 9 I 0.95 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 54 6 12 281 (W) 670 MstlyClr none 17:01 56 7 6 276 (W) 1199 MstlyClr none 18:01 53 8 11 305 (NW) 1497 MstlyClr none 19:01 49 9 4 283 (WNW) 1566 PtlyCldy none 20:01 48 0 9 264 (W) 2602 PtlyCldy none 21:01 49 -3 10 265 (W) 3195 MstlyCldy none 22:00 47 1 8 200 (SSW) 2841 MstlyCldy none 23:00 49 -4 13 267 (W) 2236 MstlyCldy none 00:00 47 -2 6 265 (W) 2261 MstlyCldy none 01:00 46 1 8 232 (SW) 2271 MstlyCldy none 02:00 46 4 9 195 (SSW) 1443 mstly cldy none 03:00 46 6 15 197 (SSW) 1308 mstly cldy none 04:00 45 4 20 211 (SSW) 1185 ptly cldy none 05:00 45 6 19 200 (SSW) 1033 ptly cldy none 06:00 45 8 19 210 (SSW) 1035 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
