They were able to get footage of some of the opening procedures (mirror covers, enclosure, etc.) I left the enclosure open to cool despite thickening cirrus clouds. There was no evident threat of rain anywhere in the region on radar. The Adler crew logged in a little after 18:00 while we waited for the sky to get dark enough to focus. I was able to get the scope focused for a handover at 18:40, giving them less than 20 minutes to try to get some images. I closed the shutters for cals and Nicole took over just after 19:00. The clouds thickened during this time to the point where, when I re-opened the shutters at 19:30, I could only barely see the Moon and could see no stars. The clouds remained through the rest of first half although Nicole was able to get some photons through them. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Clouds cleared off around 02:00 and the weather became mostly clear but not photometric, with moderate seeing. Everything was blissfully peaceful, allowing me to get some secondary tasks done in addition to observing. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:47 DIS(red) -100(398) 193 79 2.8/3.7 183 9 - 1.63 19:44 DISslit -200(273) 326 64 2.3/2.9 189 11 - 1.49 23:11 NA2gdr -4834(36165)156 54 3.5/2.9 300 15 R 1.07 00:05 DISslit -75(387) -5 71 3.3/2.9 275 10 - 1.29 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 45 14 10 215 (SW) 221 MstlyCldy none 17:01 41 8 11 215 (SW) 106 MstlyCldy none 18:01 37 2 7 177 (S) 128 MstlyCldy none 19:01 36 5 7 181 (S) 173 MstlyCldy none 20:01 37 9 8 199 (SSW) 190 MstlyCldy none 21:01 38 2 16 230 (SW) 153 MstlyCldy none 22:01 38 4 7 271 (W) 156 MstlyCldy none 23:01 38 7 11 284 (WNW) 184 MstlyCldy none 00:01 38 9 10 271 (W) 229 MstlyCldy none 01:01 37 11 14 298 (WNW) 222 cirrus none 02:01 37 11 12 295 (WNW) 253 cirrus none 03:01 36 11 10 323 (NW) 288 mstly clr none 04:01 37 11 8 346 (NNW) 280 mstly clr none 05:01 37 9 12 333 (NNW) 220 mstly clr none 06:01 36 12 15 7 (N) 262 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
