The altitude drive quit suddenly during the middle of a test slew tonight. I re-did the trac/mount command and the drive worked fine. Our internet connection to the outside world (other than maybe NMSU) dropped around 22:30 tonight (Craig was onsite to make sure it wasn't on our end). I finished the 1st half program observations for them (I called them on the phone to get instructions). Since it looked like the 2nd half was going to be in the same boat, I called Erica and got finder charts and instructions from her as well. At midnight I focused the telescope, found and oriented the object into the slit and about this time the internet connection came back. I let Erica (and Molly) go from there with their observations. They reported a few times that the interent (or maybe just Remark) was sluggish. I had them restart Remark and that seemed to fix the problems. The altitude drive again quit during the middle of a remark slew (around 03:30). I did a track/mount slew to move the telescope in Altitude and that seemed to again fix the problem. This is the 2nd time tonight that this has happened. I closed around 05:25 due to humidity, wind and increasing clouds. The observer finished her lamp cals during this time. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:27 DISslit 20(277) 135 72 -0.7/0.4 272 26 none 1.31 19:48 DISslit -70(164) 42 57 -1.0/-0.9 267 16 none 1.46 19:54 NA2gdr 174(41174) 42 58 -0.8/-1.1 272 20 clear 1.33 00:14 DISslit -240(-105) 85 59 -3.3/-3.2 275 12 none 1.36 00:15 NA2gdr -2509(38490) 85 59 -3.3/-3.2 283 14 clear 1.20 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 35 16 35 255 (WSW) 374 Mst.
