We immediately proceeded with using the eyelid to and kept observing. Second Half Observing Specialist: J.Dembicky Things started out going smoothly for the 2nd half (other than the shutter on the GFP not working anymore). Then at 12:01 strange things started happening. First a creaking noise was heard as the telescope sleweed uncontrollably in the dome. Then we noticed that the GPF was now lying on the floor. It must have just fell off from the uncontrolable slewing action. Actually it looked as if the NA2 rotor had blown up, what a mess. Then the new bafle tipped over and the sound of breaking glas could be herd over the intercom, as the secondary miror also fell off it's support structure and onto the primry mirror, shattering both into millions of tiny tiny pieces. Upon going up into the dome to asess the damage, I could smell of smoke as all the comuters on the intermediate level where letting me know they were not happy. I ran up the stairs as fast as I could to close the enclosure shutters, but they somehow jammed and fell off the building. The wind was howling from the orographic tornado that was present. Did I mention the flood in the computer too too??? OK, OK, Happy April Fools Day!!! Everything ran smooth, other than the stuck shutter on the GFP, for the 2nd half ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:25 gfp -200(744) -86 45 6.8/7.8 208 15 R 0.86 19:33 NA2gdr -2102(45897) -85 43 6.8/7.6 202 12 clear 0.93 20:38 NA2gdr -3000(45000) -77 30 7.1/6.7 224 15 clear 0.99 20:58 gfp -100(800) -111 44 7.3/6.8 222 16 R 0.88 21:04 NA2gdr -148(47851) -110 43 7.3/6.8 219 16 clear 0.81 22:35 gfp -150(958) 104 14 7.4/7.3 264 13 R 0.99 02:02 gfp -100(831) 132 17 5.8/5.8 218 23 6724 2.4 02:07 NA2gdr 525(48525) 133 18 6.1/5.8 211 23 clear 2.5 03:08 gfp -100(765) 145 27 6.2/5.6 218 22 clear 1.9 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 54 6 14 226 (SW) 190 clear none 17:01 52 3 14 205 (SSW) 180 clear none 18:01 47 3 13 217 (SW) 197 clear none 19:01 44 1 13 212 (SSW) 368 clear none 20:01 44 2 15 214 (SW) 391 clear none 21:01 45 -1 16 221 (SW) 415 clear none 22:01 46 -1 14 238 (WSW) 437 clear none 23:01 44 -1 11 258 (WSW) 403 clear none 00:01 43 2 18 216 (SW) 413 clear none 01:01 43 -1 17 208 (SSW) 261 clear none 02:01 42 -1 20 214 (SW) 338 clear none 03:01 43 -2 13 202 (SSW) 399 clear none 04:01 44 -2 16 212 (SSW) 483 clear none 05:01 44 -1 17 236 (SW) 457 clear none 06:01 44 2 15 265 (W) 509 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
