We started directly at sunset but the troublesome shutter on the GFP failed again even though Bruce tested it all afternoon and it worked without error. Finally, we ended up shutting the enclosure, taking the instrument off the telescope, opening it up and discovering that two of the shutter veins were stuck closed and the other stuck open. We removed the shutter completely. We used the eyelid on the NA2 port as a shutter for the rest of the night. We got back on the sky by 22:16 The rest of the night went very well using the eyelid as a shutter once I worked out the timing of the eyelid and the coordination between start and stop of each integration was worked out between myself and Don. Skies were clear and photometric all night with average to excellent seeing from 2300 to twilight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- DD02 F I/H 19:16 22:16 Shutter failed to open or close ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 22:25 gfp 50(814) 259 59 6.4/4.8 338 13 4300 1.23 22:27 NA2gdr 775(48775) 259 58 6.2/4.9 357 10 R 0.99 01:54 gfp -50(734) 233 42 4.1/4.1 261 6 4400 1.1 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 37 12 2 265 (W) 441 clear none 17:01 37 11 6 16 (NNE) 468 clear none 18:01 36 10 2 347 (NNW) 473 clear none 19:01 41 3 10 358 (N) 189 clear none 20:01 41 1 8 324 (NW) 138 clear none 21:01 43 0 8 351 (N) 134 clear none 22:01 44 -1 3 338 (NNW) 149 clear none 23:01 41 2 8 330 (NNW) 214 clear none 00:01 40 8 8 299 (WNW) 270 clear none 01:01 40 9 5 263 (W) 342 clear none 02:01 39 6 5 263 (W) 267 clear none 03:01 39 -1 5 265 (W) 162 clear none 04:01 40 -4 8 304 (NW) 81 clear none 05:01 40 -5 10 303 (WNW) 91 clear none 06:01 41 -5 6 274 (W) 89 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
