We took a low resolution spectra of GRB20030329 with DIS and then switched to Grim for J/H/K photometry. After this we switched back to DIS to get a high resolution spectra of the GRB. Second Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan The weather second half was clear, with seeing gradually dropping from bad and variable to something just over an arcsecond. There was a brief period of jumpy high humidity, but fortunately it settled back down. When we were done taking GRB data, we switched over to the GFP. Extensive pre-run testing of the new shutter on the instrument had indicated that it was working correctly, but the very first images showed the shutter remaining open for both chip clear and readout. We proceeded with science anyway, using the telescope eyelid as a shutter, which was quite adequate for long exposures. I listed just a little time lost to the shutter problem as we worked out procedures for using the eyelid instead. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UC09 F I/H 01:00 01:15 GFP shutter failed ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:21 dis-slit -230(-19) 95 49 -4.9/-3.9 323 8 - 1.35 21:20 nA2gdr -1950(46049)47 75 -5.2/-5.3 249 7 clear 0.96 23:32 DISslit -75(-14) 240 70 -6.3/-6.2 206 11 - 1.41 01:31 gfp -100(133) 144 60 -7.0/-7.2 192 4 4600 2.6 01:34 NA2gdr 0(48000) 146 62 -7.2/-7.3 194 3 clear 2.25 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 33 1 8 269 (W) 305 clear none 17:01 27 -2 1 290 (WNW) 295 clear none 18:01 25 -1 10 301 (WNW) 287 clear none 19:01 23 -1 6 322 (NW) 296 clear none 20:01 24 0 9 324 (NW) 298 clear none 21:01 23 -1 5 271 (W) 305 clear none 22:01 22 -1 8 234 (SW) 317 clear none 23:01 21 -1 9 221 (SW) 313 clear none 00:01 20 4 9 206 (SSW) 389 clear none 01:01 20 4 6 212 (SSW) 416 clear none 02:01 21 6 1 236 (SW) 524 clear none 03:01 20 3 5 280 (W) 537 clear none 04:01 21 2 10 308 (NW) 434 clear none 05:01 20 2 11 334 (NNW) 688 clear none 06:01 22 0 8 16 (NNE) 558 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
