I opened the shutters and was looking up at the sky condition and had to duck as a fist size snowball flew by. It was light powder and was no where near the telescope itself but as a second one was blown across the dome I closed the shutters and informed the observer that we would remain closed the rest of the night. I resumed the snow program, started roof heaters and then spent most of the later part of the first half training new users onsite to use the telescope and instruments. Second Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Wind speed eventually dropped second half, leaving us with varied cloud cover until twilight. We ran the snow program for the night, and I'm happy to report that the telescope motors sounded just fine on long slews despite temperatures below their grease ratings (some of the coldest weather we've had all winter, and it isn't winter anymore!). We did lots of fun tests with the echelle, Fabry-Perot, and DIS. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 18 11 20 72 (ENE) 221 prtly cldy none 17:01 18 12 22 66 (ENE) 219 prtly cldy none 18:01 16 11 24 62 (ENE) 181 prtly cldy none 19:01 15 11 36 70 (ENE) 166 prtly cldy none 20:01 15 9 29 56 (NE) 165 prtly cldy none 21:01 15 9 29 69 (ENE) 170 prtly cldy none 22:01 15 8 33 70 (ENE) 190 prtly cldy none 23:01 15 8 19 60 (ENE) 200 prtly cldy none 00:01 15 8 31 63 (ENE) 192 prtly cldy none 01:01 14 6 20 67 (ENE) 216 prtly cldy none 02:01 14 5 15 74 (ENE) 220 prtly cldy none 03:01 14 3 21 72 (ENE) 192 prtly cldy none 04:01 13 3 6 105 (ESE) 259 prtly cldy none 05:01 12 4 4 79 (ENE) 232 prtly cldy none 06:01 11 3 15 86 (E) 614 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
