We had clear skies to start the night out with. The first half observers switched over to GrIm around 23:05. I mounted the instrument and had them slew to their first star. After several attempts to find the 10th mag star in J with GrIm I decided to slew to a brighter 8th mag star but still no star to be found. I tried a pointing correction and nothing was observed on the guider. I then noticed that the reported telescope postion and actual position in the TCC did not match. Either I forgot to do an axis init (possible, but I couldn't tell since that had already scrolled off the history of the TCC on my screen) or the telescope drives stopped in the middle of a slew. Anyhow, I did an axis stop and then an axis init as well as a slew from the TCC to make sure things were going again and we were back in buisness. Probably 20 mins of time was lost in my figuring out what was going on and then fixing the problem. John Barentine and Russet McMillan chased a GRB for 2nd half for Don Lamb (UC). John started around 00:10 with SPIcam. At 04:00 we switched over to GrIm since there was not enough time for John to get anything useful out of the remaining hour of time for the originally scheduled program. Instead they used the remaining for couple of engineering purposes. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- JH01 G T/S 23:15 23:35 no axis init after inst change ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:45 SPIcam -100(752) 178 57 6.7/7.7 237 14 i' 0.75 18:54 NA2gdr 424(49424) 178 57 6.9/7.5 234 18 R 0.78 19:43 SPIcam -150(628) 118 75 5.6/6.7 231 11 i' 0.75 19:45 NA2gdr 2532(51532) 118 75 5.8/6.7 224 10 R 0.84 20:54 SPIcam -100(682) 204 63 6.6/6.4 238 16 i' 0.69 20:56 NA2gdr 690(49690) 205 63 6.6/6.4 237 17 R 0.77 21:35 SPIcam -150(599) 43 75 6.7/6.0 263 17 i' 0.78 21:39 NA2gdr -1120(47879) 43 75 6.7/6.0 253 15 R 0.90 23:20 GrIm-f/5 50(658) 252 46 6.9/6.6 271 16 J 0.99 00:20 SPIcam -100(724) 151 53 6.9/6.5 273 14 i' 0.78 00:25 NA2gdr 310(49310) 151 53 6.6/6.9 285 15 R 0.90 04:07 GrIm-f/5 40(528) 145 70 5.8/5.8 268 17 J 0.71 05:03 S-H -100(989) 128 60 4.5/5.1 269 9 none moderate --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 49 17 16 249 (WSW) 476 Clear none 17:01 48 15 11 268 (W) 457 Clear none 18:01 45 16 10 258 (WSW) 487 Clear none 19:01 42 15 15 241 (WSW) 407 Clear none 20:01 41 14 13 235 (SW) 465 Clear none 21:01 44 11 15 232 (SW) 386 Clear none 22:01 45 11 18 255 (WSW) 424 Clear none 23:01 44 11 13 269 (W) 338 Clear none 00:01 46 8 19 273 (W) 419 Clear none 01:01 45 9 16 279 (W) 437 Clear none 02:01 44 9 15 266 (W) 447 Clear none 03:01 44 8 15 257 (WSW) 396 Clear none 04:01 41 9 17 261 (W) 406 Clear none 05:01 41 13 16 267 (W) 454 Clear none m Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
