Toward midnight the skies began to clear gradually and the dewpoint dropped very slowly. 2nd half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Humidity dropped quite suddenly after midnight, and the clouds began to break up. Patchy orographic clouds persisted for several hours, then finally cleared off completely after 04:00 at the same time that the wind dropped to less than 5 mph. I called the observer at 04:25 and she felt that she wouldn't be able to make use of the short amount of time remaining. I considered opening for throughput measurements, but the conditions were disturbingly similar to those under which I got graupel on the primary mirror a few weeks ago. I went up to double-check the catwalk and perhaps the hatchway, and while I was on the catwalk snow blew down from the roof onto my face. Under the circumstances, I didn't feel it was safe to open despite the apparently perfect sky conditions. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 29 21 19 221 (SW) 305 Overcast none 17:01 29 18 27 262 (W) 484 Overcast none 18:01 29 19 22 246 (WSW) 425 Overcast none 19:01 29 21 22 262 (W) 183 Overcast none 20:01 28 22 16 231 (SW) 167 Overcast none 21:01 27 26 18 241 (WSW) 376 Overcast none 22:01 27 27 22 267 (W) 7319 Overcast none 23:01 26 25 28 238 (WSW) 11616 Overcast none 00:01 23 22 13 263 (W) 381 MstlyCldy none 01:01 23 9 17 260 (W) 465 mstly cldy none 02:01 22 7 16 272 (W) 488 mstly cldy none 03:01 20 6 14 332 (NNW) 479 mstly cldy none 04:01 19 4 2 0 (N) 528 ptly cldy none 05:01 18 4 14 338 (NNW) 458 clear none 06:01 18 5 10 337 (NNW) 463 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
