The clouds thinned around sunset but wisps of cirrus could be seen on the horizon. Around 20:10 clouds started moving in and by 08:45 we were pretty much under cloud cover (thick enough to completely obscure the moon). I closed the telescope at 21:00 due to clouds. The observer decided to leave me with his phone number to call if conditions looked to improve (at the moment it looks pretty bleak). The clouds thinned out starting around 23:30 and I felt comfortable enough that it wasn't just a "sucker hole" to open at 00:00. I contacted the observer to let him know conditions were improving. I then prepared the telescope and focused while the observer drove back to the university. Everything ran smoothly tonight. What started out as looking like a wash of a night, due to weather, turned out to be very productive at capturing photons. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:08 Echelle 61(-485) -25 56 0.5/0.4 0 17 ND1 1.27 00:08 Echelle 41(-543) 106 61 0.8/-0.1 355 5 ND1 1.26 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 33 0 9 322 (NW) 25 Cirrus none 17:01 33 -1 7 353 (N) 11 Cirrus none 18:01 33 -1 12 8 (N) 23 Lt.
