Things ran relatively smoothly for the first half. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan There was a difficulty with the tilts of the tertiary when we switched from echelle to DIS. This may have been caused by something I was doing at the time, but I couldn't quite figure out how that could have caused the problem. I was concerned by the possibility that one of the tertiary actuators might have gotten stuck, so I spent a while testing tertiary motion and then, to play it safe, got Jack to help me home the mirror. This went well and everything looked normal afterward, so I suspect the actuators did not cause the initial problem, but there was some time lost to the whole process. As it happened, the period of equipment trouble coincided with the thickest clouds to pass through during the night. The remainder of the morning was mostly clear, with variable seeing. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- PU03 D T/S 00:00 00:41 M3 tilts wrong after inst change ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:53 Echelle 11(18) 12 68 0.7/0.7 273 13 ND2 1.00 20:03 Echelle 7(39) 115 47 0.2/-0.3 269 15 ND2 1.37 00:57 DISslit 125(989) -2 59 2.6/1.2 289 15 - 1.08 -------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 35 26 9 291 (WNW) 72 Pt.
