Seeing was extremely poor and variable all night with several excursions above 4 and 5 arcseconds during the later part of first half and much of second half. Around 01:30 there were several image jumps that were symptoms of problems with the secondary actuators. I closed at 04:30 for high wind conditions and Russet came in to help troubleshoot the secondary actuators. All signs indicate that there is a serious problem. Jon Davis and Mark Klaene will be informed first thing this morning. During the beginning of first half, some low level banding was seen on the NA2 guider images. This pattern had about a RMS deviation of about 10 counts and was variable from image to image. I had Craig look at this briefly but it did not seem to affect science or guiding at the time. It went away on its own. I make a point of noting it now to track it in case it becomes more serious in the future. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UC04 D T/S --:-- --:-- NA2 Guider exhibits Banding Pattern UW05 D T/H --:-- --:-- M2 actuators sticking in cold ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:55 dis-slit -220(471) 193 77 -0.4/1.2 263 19 - 1.3 17:57 NA2gdr 570(44570) 195 77 -0.4/1.0 263 22 R 1.25 00:32 dis-slit -50(467) -66 67 -3.3/-3.3 296 16 - 5.0 -------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 36 17 26 271 (W) 545 clear none 17:01 33 18 20 265 (W) 364 clear none 18:01 31 17 16 264 (W) 480 clear none 19:01 31 16 20 264 (W) 503 clear none 20:01 30 14 21 264 (W) 257 clear none 21:01 29 15 20 268 (W) 563 clear none 22:01 29 14 17 276 (W) 355 clear none 23:01 29 15 20 280 (W) 323 clear none 00:01 27 16 22 289 (WNW) 427 clear none 01:01 24 14 20 325 (NW) 582 clear none 02:01 21 10 16 354 (N) 528 clear none 03:01 20 6 6 26 (NNE) 470 clear none 04:01 19 0 16 349 (NNW) 242 clear none 05:01 18 -10 22 5 (N) 127 clear none 06:01 16 -16 9 4 (N) 126 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
