Opened at 17:10 to cool. Once the telescope equilibrated, seeing was yet again a rollercoaster ride between 1 and 2 arcseconds, with variations on timescales of no more than a minute. Watching the guider monitor was so entertaining that I did a screen capture and posted the seeing plot on the web: http://users.apo.nmsu.edu/~jcb/seeing20031123.gif The variation wasn't caused by windshake; at the time, we were pointed nearly opposite the wind. While skies were clear throughout, seeing continued to vary. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half was clear, with moderate to bad seeing, but never as bad as Saturday night. Everything worked perfectly; there were no repeats of the previous night's image jumps during focus adjustments. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:44 DISslit 0(565) 186 77 -1.2/-1.7 38 22 - 1.17 00:31 Echelle 151(-180) 128 53 2.7/-0.4 351 11 ND3 1.7 -------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 31 -19 14 46 (NE) 0 MstlyClr none 17:01 28 -21 25 38 (NE) 0 MstlyClr none 18:01 30 -19 16 17 (NNE) 0 Clear none 19:01 30 -19 25 11 (N) 0 Clear none 20:01 27 -21 22 8 (N) 0 Clear none 21:01 30 -19 19 6 (N) 0 Clear none 22:01 30 -19 11 24 (NNE) 0 Clear none 23:01 33 -17 21 26 (NNE) 0 Clear none 00:01 33 -14 5 2 (N) 0 Clear none 01:01 34 -15 6 9 (N) 0 clear none 02:01 32 -16 9 0 (N) 0 clear none 03:01 32 -15 5 286 (WNW) 0 clear none 04:01 33 -15 9 326 (NW) 0 clear none 05:01 31 -14 7 332 (NNW) 0 mstly clr none 06:01 35 -11 8 334 (NNW) 0 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
