Dust and winds remained high throughout first half. Orographic clouds came and went throughout the half as well. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan The dust levels dropped around midnight, and wind mostly stayed below the limit, but some heavy orographic clouds developed at the same time and made it useless to open. After 02:30 the clouds broke up, but they continued to come and go until about 04:00. We focused and got some observations through the clouds and later while it was clear, but the seeing was very poor -- 2.5 at best, >4 at worst. We had a number of possibly cold-related problems, including magnesensor errors that took longer to clear up than usual and several large (>15 arcsec) image jumps associated with focus adjustments. But these didn't cost too much time. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 03:22 DISslit -350(188) -8 76 -5.8/-3.2 287 16 - 2.5 -------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 42 12 22 258 (WSW) 0 MstlyClr dust 17:01 40 12 34 262 (W) 0 MstlyClr dust 18:01 38 14 34 256 (WSW) 0 MstlyClr dust 19:01 34 18 19 262 (W) 0 MstlyClr dust 20:01 32 17 18 275 (W) 0 PtlyCldy dust 21:01 31 15 20 311 (NW) 0 PtlyCldy dust 22:01 30 13 31 284 (WNW) 0 MstlyCldy dust 23:01 29 11 17 286 (WNW) 0 PtlyCldy dust 00:01 27 7 22 286 (WNW) 0 PtlyCldy dust 01:01 26 6 19 282 (WNW) 0 mstly cldy none 02:01 25 6 17 270 (W) 0 mstly cldy none 03:01 22 5 12 272 (W) 0 mstly cldy none 04:01 20 4 26 286 (WNW) 0 mstly clr none 05:01 20 0 17 337 (NNW) 0 clear none 06:01 17 -1 14 12 (NNE) 0 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
