Seeing was around an arcsecond with clearing skies until around 20:30 when the dewpoint depression reading from the weather station suddenly shot down below 0 degrees C. While the reading appeared faulty, clouds were rapidly forming at the ridge and blowing over us, so I elected to close. Railings upstairs were slightly tacky to the touch when I went up to close. The dewpoint depression readings changed back to more reasonably values over the next half hour, but the skies remained nearly overcast. The skies had sufficiently cleared near 23:30 (with no dewpoint anomalies in the previous two hours) that I decided to open. The clouds returned quickly... then disappeared. This cycle repeated as clouds suddenly formed over us and then dissipated; I warned the observers to keep a careful watch on the cloud camera images. 2nd half Observing Specialist: J.Dembicky Nice quiet 2nd half with no problems. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:58 dis-slit 250(1154) 185 80 11.4/12.9 177 15 - 1.0 17:59 dis-slit 250(1154) 185 80 11.4/12.9 177 15 - 1.04 18:02 NA2gdr -1970(42030)190 80 11.4/12.8 191 15 R 0.96 23:41 DISslit 175(968) 190 78 10.0/10.5 188 11 - 1.09 -------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 58 31 19 213 (SSW) 506 PtlyCldy none 17:01 54 31 15 208 (SSW) 553 PtlyCldy none 18:01 53 31 8 198 (SSW) 644 PtlyCldy none 19:01 52 31 14 184 (S) 644 PtlyCldy none 20:01 52 39 21 180 (S) 760 PtlyCldy none 21:01 51 43 18 165 (SSE) 806 MstlyCldy none 22:01 51 44 20 176 (S) 696 MstlyCldy none 23:01 50 42 21 206 (SSW) 787 MstlyCldy none 00:01 50 43 17 192 (SSW) 895 PtlyCldy none 01:01 50 37 18 209 (SSW) 834 PtlyCldy none 02:01 47 42 14 208 (SSW) 909 MstlyClr none 03:01 47 36 13 212 (SSW) 1050 MstlyClr none 04:01 45 30 8 204 (SSW) 1043 MstlyClr none 05:01 44 31 9 235 (SW) 743 MstlyClr none 06:01 44 31 9 265 (W) 758 MstlyClr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
