Cloud cover when I finally did open was a thin to thick cirrus. The clouds varied their level of opaqueness throughout the evening. Seeing was moderate to poor. 2nd half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half had thin to moderate clouds and seeing varying from one to two arcseconds. We were closed for a couple of hours due to high winds. Strangely, the air temperature warmed several degrees when the gusty north winds came through, so we had some focus difficulties when we re-opened. The second half observers accidentally forgot to set their gratings at the program change, so they ended up taking a number of targets at an unplanned resolution. That was all right for some targets, but they planned to change gratings and take extra calibration images later in the morning. The opportunity arrived when clouds thickened, then the winds increased. When we re-opened later in the morning, one target was observed with the new settings. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:44 dis-slit 30(585) 179 76 3.7/4.9 331 12 - 1.39 19:47 NA2gdr 1942(45942) 182 76 3.7/4.9 322 17 R 1.16 -------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 42 16 3 270 (W) 375 mstly cldy none 17:01 40 19 4 310 (NW) 462 mstly cldy none 18:01 39 17 8 325 (NW) 370 mstly cldy none 19:01 39 19 10 311 (NW) 411 mstly cldy none 20:01 39 19 13 326 (NW) 475 mstly cldy none 21:01 40 18 14 341 (NNW) 385 mstly cldy none 22:01 42 17 8 321 (NW) 407 mstly cldy none 23:01 44 17 22 355 (N) 342 ptly cldy none 00:01 43 17 17 355 (N) 353 mstly clr none 01:01 46 17 17 9 (N) 346 mstly clr none 02:01 46 17 19 28 (NNE) 331 ptly cldy none 03:01 46 17 26 23 (NNE) 299 ptly cldy none 04:01 47 18 25 20 (NNE) 229 ptly cldy none 05:01 49 18 25 26 (NNE) 117 ptly cldy none 06:01 50 15 26 25 (NNE) 127 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
