Clear weather with excellent seeing at the beginning of the night. The Einstein Cross was clearly visible in the raw data of the Lens program. At 20:45 the wind shifted direction and the seeing exploded to above 2 arcsecs. It settled down to 1.5 arcsec by 23:30. Second half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan A nice, peaceful night. Pointing not quite as perfect as last night, but still fine. I adjusted the telescope's upper altitude limit experimentally and found the first signs of misbehavior just above 85 degrees, so I changed the limit back. I took lots of GRIM exposures and got my sequence aborted several times by the old "no flush" error. And I worked on annual statistics. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:34 SPIcam -170(1177) 123 45 11.5/13.4 196 1 r' 0.78 19:39 NA2gdr 2000(51000) 124 46 11.6/13.4 201 1 R 0.84 21:25 dis-slit 30(889) 207 76 10.6/11.9 2 1 - 1.0 21:26 NA2gdr 2705(43705) 209 76 10.6/11.9 2 1 clear 0.9 01:05 Echelle 116(167) 89 67 10.8/10.3 17 6 ND2 1.1 -------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 61 25 9 264 (W) 481 clear none 17:01 59 24 7 256 (WSW) 540 clear none 18:01 56 25 5 265 (W) 531 clear none 19:01 52 24 1 225 (SW) 555 clear none 20:01 53 23 1 271 (W) 600 clear none 21:01 52 22 4 339 (NNW) 474 clear none 22:01 50 22 3 356 (N) 453 clear none 23:01 50 24 4 359 (N) 610 clear none 00:01 53 24 2 355 (N) 597 clear none 01:01 52 25 6 10 (N) 627 clear none 02:01 52 24 6 21 (NNE) 556 clear none 03:01 52 24 4 22 (NNE) 646 clear none 04:01 53 24 4 19 (NNE) 615 clear none 05:01 51 24 9 33 (NNE) 684 clear none 06:01 51 24 8 38 (NE) 540 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
