John Barentine went up to actually check to make sure that our sensor was reading the mirror temp correctly and found that it was about a degree warmer than being reported. The mirror had actually warmed during the day, but the dewpoint also followed. The outside temp and enclosure temperatures were 3-7 degrees warmer than the primary so I decided to leave the covers open and point the telescope at the roof to see if we could get the mirror to warm further. After there was a more comfortable margin of about 2 degrees between the dewpoint and mirror temperature (largely due to the dewpoint dropping more than the mirror temp rising) I turned on the intex and telex fans to get some air circulating around the primary. This helped considerably in warming our mirror towards the outside temperature. A pesky dark cloud hung over the observatory at sunset (and virga had been spotted previosly, when I was up in the enclosure, to our east) so this hindered us from opening on time. We had a few problems with Grim dropping quads tonight, but fixed it on both occasions by rebooting the instrument. Russed adjusted the pointing offset for Echelle for the 2nd half observer. The commented that the pointing was very good with the corrections. Everything ran smoothly for the 2nd half. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- PU04 G I/H 21:20 22:15 Grim dropping quads PU04 G I/H 23:17 23:33 GRIM dropping quads ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:08 Grim f/5 0(922) 92 64 9.4/11.2 358 5 J 0.60 23:36 Grim f/5 125(969) 208 66 10.5/9.5 277 6 J 0.99 01:07 Echelle 82(56) 264 72 10.1/9.2 271 9 ND3 0.99 -------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 55 44 5 261 (W) 685 Mst.
