Despite the new NA2 pointing model Russet did last night, pointing at NA2 was *worse* tonight than the last time I ran DIS, on UT September 26. I tried a local pointing correction which didn't seem to help any. But it mattered little, as despite generally clear skies on satellite throughout the local area, orographic clouds continually formed and dissipated directly over us. Toward 23:00 the clouds thickened and the humidity crept up; radar showed precipitation between Las Cruces and El Paso generally heading our direction. I closed at that point. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Clouds, then high humidity, then clouds again. I spent the night doing multiple test slews and going over data from encoders, pointing models, LVDTs, and magnesensors to try to figure out the pointing problem. No conclusions yet. The next observers to get on the sky should anticipate at least a brief delay to check and correct pointing and perhaps collimation. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:03 DISslit 150(1135) 122 32 9.8/11.9 185 7 - 1.32 20:15 NA2gdr 2702(43702) 193 79 10.0/11.5 186 7 clear 0.97 -------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 52 47 9 183 (S) 73 MstlyCldy none 17:01 53 46 6 202 (SSW) 75 MstlyCldy none 18:01 54 46 9 191 (S) 79 MstlyCldy none 19:01 50 41 5 226 (SW) 121 MstlyCldy none 20:01 50 41 5 184 (S) 88 PtlyCldy none 21:01 50 44 6 200 (SSW) 159 MstlyClr none 22:01 50 44 6 221 (SW) 240 PtlyCldy none 23:01 49 43 7 205 (SSW) 106 MstlyCldy none 00:01 49 42 6 220 (SW) 68 Overcast none 01:01 48 45 3 240 (WSW) 112 cloudy none 02:01 49 46 7 272 (W) 203 cloudy none 03:01 48 47 5 273 (W) 153 cloudy none 04:01 48 47 10 307 (NW) 135 mstly cldy fog 05:01 48 46 6 350 (N) 177 cloudy none 06:01 49 41 6 33 (NNE) 133 cloudy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
