At about 1915 tonight I noticed that the Altitude Axis was reporting a badAltDtime of greater than 1 second. This happens when the 1 pps signal is not synced properly. I asked the observer to stop what they were doing, I reinitialized the axis controllers and we were back in buisness. Seeing seemed to improve to the 1 arcsec level around 2100. Second Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half was mostly clear with a few very light clouds. Seeing was extremely variable, sometimes going from 3 arcsec to under 1 arcsec on the same field in 10-15 minutes. Everything worked well -- the focus was relatively stable (as far as I could tell in the intervals of decent seeing), and the observer remarked that tracking was especially good during long integrations of a target in the northwest. Interestingly, the DIS offset directions reversed again, so that tonight they agreed with slitview. I was able to confirm that this was true for the entire night. I don't know yet whether the previous problem was fixed and nobody told us about, or it's something that changes from night to night. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:53 DISslit 0(734) 89 54 5.7/8.2 57 11 - 1.57 17:55 NA2gdr 2321(55321) 89 55 5.7/8.1 60 10 R 1.39 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 47 14 4 298 (WNW) 86 Clear None 17:01 44 18 3 24 (NNE) 92 Clear None 18:01 42 20 9 54 (NE) 46 Clear None 19:01 38 18 5 16 (NNE) 76 Clear None 20:01 40 14 15 23 (NNE) 49 Clear None 21:01 41 7 10 21 (NNE) 39 Clear None 22:01 38 12 19 25 (NNE) 41 Clear None 23:01 37 17 18 4 (N) 43 Clear None 00:01 37 17 20 29 (NNE) 38 clear none 01:01 37 13 13 52 (NE) 63 clear none 02:01 36 14 9 62 (ENE) 74 clear none 03:01 39 9 11 9 (N) 51 clear none 04:01 38 8 17 31 (NNE) 65 mstly clr none 05:01 38 9 15 13 (NNE) 71 mstly clr none 06:01 38 9 13 7 (N) 63 cirrus none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
