Second Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan We had some cirrus move in shortly after midnight. Seeing continued to be moderate to poor (1.5-3 arcsec) on most of the science targets, but much of that was probably due to being pointed near the wind direction. When we refocused a little bit further from the wind, seeing appeared considerably better. Around 01:30 there were a couple of wind gusts over the limit. They didn't repeat, and so I decided not to close, but I did stop for a few minutes to close the dome shutters partway, since they open about 20 inches past the necessary aperture. This experiment did not produce any noticeable improvement in windshake or seeing, however. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:54 DISslit 0(539) 90 54 5.7/6.0 24 25 - 1.18 17:57 NA2gdr 588(53588) 90 54 5.6/6.0 23 24 R 1.39 02:35 DISslit -75(463) 49 72 4.9/4.5 37 19 - 1.13 02:38 NA2gdr -240(52759) 48 73 5.1/4.5 45 19 clear 0.95 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 41 8 17 17 (NNE) 43 clear none 17:01 40 10 25 37 (NE) 57 clear none 18:01 42 11 25 33 (NNE) 14 clear none 19:01 42 11 31 23 (NNE) 23 clear none 20:01 42 10 18 21 (NNE) 25 clear none 21:01 42 12 21 16 (NNE) 27 clear none 22:01 39 15 21 35 (NE) 20 clear none 23:01 41 16 21 15 (NNE) 26 clear none 00:01 40 17 27 24 (NNE) 16 mstly clr none 01:01 42 16 30 20 (NNE) 14 cirrus none 02:01 40 17 21 47 (NE) 26 cirrus none 03:01 40 14 20 31 (NNE) 20 cirrus none 04:01 41 13 14 33 (NNE) 20 cirrus none 05:01 40 12 9 48 (NE) 19 mstly clr none 06:01 40 12 7 10 (N) 21 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
