The beginning of the evening was a little rocky with the observer uncertain of the proper settup for DIS. With some iteration I helped them get a setup that made them happy. It was 1830 before they got to their cals. It was about 2015 by the time they had me open up and focus. Seeing was fair. Seeing degraded as the wind kept switching back and forth between the northwest and northeast. The rest of first half was uneventful. 2nd half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half continued clear with mostly poor seeing. Everything went smoothly except that I had quite a bit of trouble on some field persuading the guider to pick up stars that looked perfectly obvious and acceptable when I inspected the images. I never found a reason for this, but we managed to muddle through somehow. After 05:00, we also had some trouble with the Obs2Mac dropping its Remark connection repeatedly. It was easy to work around since the observers were on-site, but again we couldn't identify the reason. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:38 dis-slit -230(258) 224 50 1.8/2.3 354 8 - 1.44 20:40 NA2gdr -1253(39746) 224 50 1.8/2.3 354 8 R 1.25 00:37 DISslit 100(599) 314 44 3.6/2.4 41 8 - 2.22 00:39 NA2gdr 3034(44034) 314 44 3.5/2.4 7 15 R 2.06 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 39 21 4 268 (W) 158 Clear none 17:01 36 18 3 4 (N) 182 Clear none 18:01 34 18 3 6 (N) 181 Clear none 19:01 35 9 4 322 (NW) 82 Clear none 20:01 36 3 11 343 (NNW) 50 Clear none 21:01 35 1 16 348 (NNW) 43 Clear none 22:01 36 1 8 14 (NNE) 66 Clear none 23:01 37 7 8 354 (N) 107 Clear none 00:01 37 8 8 7 (N) 84 clear none 01:01 37 9 1 26 (NNE) 79 clear none 02:01 38 2 12 340 (NNW) 71 clear none 03:01 37 7 6 326 (NW) 81 clear none 04:01 38 5 10 3 (N) 79 clear none 05:01 36 7 12 19 (NNE) 70 clear none 06:01 42 3 10 25 (NNE) 25 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
