Clouds had moved in by 18:00 that I decided it was prudent to close in case of precipitation (nothing useful would have been observable thru the clouds anyway). By 20:00 the clouds had thinned somewhat but were still coming thru in waves, we also had a large bank of clouds sitting just to our west. The wind also started gusting from the NE around this time and the temps dropped, causing the humidity to rise a little. Around 21:00, after waiting to see if things were going to get worse, I decided it was OK to open and try collecting a few photons. The seeing was horrible at around 3 arc sec (not suprising with the wind and just opening). Clouds also started making there appearance once again, but we were going to try to get something useful anyhow. I asked the observer to see if she could get anything useful and if not, let me know and we would close or wait until conditions improved. 2nd half Observing Specialist: R. McMillan Seeing remained poor into second half, with clouds coming and going. After Craig fixed the scale problem with the newer version of testview that was tested last night, the observer gave it a try. She found that the Y scale was correct, but the offset signs in X which were working last night had somehow become backwards again. The scheduled observer handed the brightest portion of her time over to another CU observer, who took some spectra of Jupiter and its moons (without saturating the detector, although the slitview was suffering). ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:18 DISslit -350(-7) 147 58 -0.4/1.4 63 17 none 2.94 22:52 DISslit -130(122) 123 58 -1.2/-0.7 67 16 none 2.46 22:54 NA2gdr 1906(42906) 123 58 -1.2/-0.7 68 20 Clear 2.46 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 39 19 4 340 (NNW) 321 Pt.
