He reported that the ThAr lamp was quite weak. He was using a much smaller slit for his program and he says he took that into account in calculating expected counts. I filled out a problem report for the daystaff to replace the lamp if possible before tomorrow evening. Skies were clear when I started my checkout but by twilight we were completely socked in. The clouds didnt look to have threatening moisture so I let the observer take cloud flats. Then I closed. I opened about 19:15 since it was looking better but we still could only see stars brighter than magnitude 4 or so. It looked to be improving so we decided to stay open and wait it out. At 20:30 the cloud camera started showing signs of the measles. I closed immediately. While I was closing the dome I noticed it was snow flurries. The rain sensor did not go off until I was closed and back downstairs headed out the door to close the cloud camera. About 5 minutes later one of the daystaff had called to inform me he had driven through snow flurries on his way home. Unfortunately this warning was about 10 minutes too late. Second Half Observing Specialist: R. McMillan Continued clouds second half, and high humidity towards twilight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 42 16 14 298 (WNW) 138 Clear none 17:01 42 21 10 266 (W) 159 Clear none 18:01 40 22 10 269 (W) 224 mstly cldy none 19:01 39 22 16 265 (W) 209 prtly cldy snow flurries 20:01 38 28 14 266 (W) 124 mstly cldy none 21:01 37 28 20 285 (WNW) 79 cldy none 22:01 37 29 23 262 (W) 51 cldy flurries 23:01 37 29 16 270 (W) 59 cldy flurries 00:01 37 29 17 285 (WNW) 59 cloudy none 01:01 37 28 16 270 (W) 79 cloudy none 02:01 36 30 15 289 (WNW) 109 cloudy none 03:01 36 29 16 269 (W) 119 cloudy none 04:01 35 29 15 269 (W) 117 cloudy none 05:01 33 27 20 281 (W) 109 cloudy none 06:01 33 27 13 250 (WSW) 131 mstly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
