I had plenty of time to have the telescope cooling and focused (after observers completed cals) before the observers scheduled time. Within an hour of the end of twilight the wind shifted from the north to north-north east and the seeing degraded to worse than 2.5 arcsec (Sloan were seeing worse results). At the beginning of the night I had the observer confirm the reported offset by the dis-slitviewer in the X direction still is broken. I also noticed the PMSS being twitchy during the observers cals. The amplitude was small and frequency very low, it seemed to correct itself after we slewed to a focus star, Second Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half was clear, with seeing varying from good to mediocre (0.8-1.5 arcsec). Some of the image size was probably due to focus changes because the temperature was bouncing around a lot, but I did my best to keep up. Everything worked very well, and I even managed to squeeze in a set of Shack-Hartmann observations in the morning twilight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:50 DISslit 0(467) 209 48 2.6/3.5 352 4 - 1.44 17:56 NA2gdr 4050(57050) 211 47 2.5/3.6 358 6 R 1.13 00:14 DISslit -75(344) 323 61 2.5/1.5 32 12 - 1.17 00:16 NA2gdr 83(53083) 322 61 2.6/1.6 34 11 R 1.03 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 39 7 1 9 (N) 119 Clear None 17:01 39 -3 0 39 (NE) 54 Clear None 18:01 37 -7 6 355 (N) 26 Clear None 19:01 35 -8 7 13 (NNE) 27 Clear None 20:01 34 -8 21 24 (NNE) 23 Clear None 21:01 35 1 24 22 (NNE) 14 Clear None 22:01 36 11 15 19 (NNE) 7 Clear None 23:01 37 11 11 16 (NNE) 4 Clear None 00:01 34 13 0 125 (SE) 9 clear none 01:01 37 13 11 17 (NNE) 1 clear none 02:01 33 12 11 40 (NE) 3 clear none 03:01 37 10 16 23 (NNE) 2 clear none 04:01 35 11 9 16 (NNE) 7 clear none 05:01 40 6 1 322 (NW) 13 clear none 06:01 36 7 1 15 (NNE) 11 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
