About 21:30, Don Lamb called the site from where he was staying in Los Alamos with news of a HETE GRB trigger. At the time the localization was too low for us to chase it with the 3.5m, but within the half hour the localization was improved to 2' and the position reported. The position RA (11h) meant that we could not go after it immediately, but pre-emption of the second-half programs was likely. We did trigger and observed the field with SPIcam approximately three and a half hours after the outburst but did not detect make a detection of any afterglow to beyond the limiting magnitude of the DSS. Throughout this time we had an increase of light cirrus and winds from the south, degrading our seeing to beyond an arcsecond and inconveniently making for non-photometric observing conditions. Russet was helping out from home while logged into Remark, and we acknowledge her efforts with thanks. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: J.Dembicky Everything ran smoothly 2nd half. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:11 Echelle -112(-301) 181 79 5.7/7.4 230 7 clear 0.55 20:01 Echelle 11(-216) 187 69 6.4/6.4 263 7 clear 0.66 23:57 SPIcam -140(747) 95 36 3.7/3.9 185 9 i' 0.70 04:14 Echelle -7(-469) 139 56 2.9/2.5 267 13 ND1 0.87 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 45 16 5 193 (SSW) 66 MstlyClr none 17:01 44 12 5 210 (SSW) 99 MstlyClr none 18:01 40 6 6 199 (SSW) 140 Clear none 19:01 44 5 8 261 (W) 43 Clear none 20:01 44 4 6 250 (WSW) 29 Clear none 21:01 43 4 6 248 (WSW) 40 Clear none 22:01 43 3 3 228 (SW) 52 Clear none 23:01 39 12 7 185 (S) 106 MstlyClr none 00:01 39 11 10 183 (S) 78 MstlyClr none 01:01 36 12 9 200 (SSW) 96 MstlyClr none 02:01 38 12 12 210 (SSW) 68 MstlyClr none 03:01 38 12 12 239 (WSW) 45 Lt.
