First half was uneventful, though the seeing could have been better. Toward the shift change the seeing settled down to nearly an arcsecond. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: J.Dembicky At around 01:20 the observers reported that they could not find a 10 mag star in the echelle guider image. I slewed to a brighter star and found it faint in 6 seconds. I moved the filters several times and finally it reported a clear filter in place (and a much brighter star). I handed the telescope back over to the observers and they were able to find their star. The mirror also was exhibiting some oscillations and I slewed the telescope to 15 alt and then 80 alt, this caused the mirror to settle down. Other than that, everything ran smoothly. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UC/02 E I/H 01:20 01:35 Echelle filter wheel stuck on ND2 filter. Moving it a couple times unstuck it. The mirror also had an oscillation showing on the load cells. I don't think this was related to the observers not being able to find their star though. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:10 Echelle 211(23) 190 67 7.8/7.2 22 16 ND2 1.09 20:21 Echelle -33(-171) 167 43 7.6/7.0 30 21 ND1 1.20 22:50 Echelle -29(-190) 263 45 7.1/6.7 47 18 ND1 1.31 04:03 Echelle -19(-369) 171 71 7.3/6.1 242 1 ND1 0.94 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 44 15 11 350 (N) 46 PtlyCldy none 17:01 46 11 8 3 (N) 62 PtlyCldy none 18:01 46 10 15 20 (NNE) 38 Clear none 19:01 46 9 21 24 (NNE) 44 Clear none 20:01 45 8 19 27 (NNE) 52 Clear none 21:01 45 3 23 20 (NNE) 56 Clear none 22:01 44 4 22 25 (NNE) 47 Clear none 23:01 47 2 20 51 (NE) 27 Clear none 00:01 45 1 1 272 (W) 43 Clear none 01:01 44 0 4 347 (NNW) 49 Clear none 02:01 47 2 5 80 (E) 39 Clear none 03:01 44 1 2 20 (NNE) 51 Clear none 04:01 45 1 0 216 (SW) 46 Clear none 05:01 44 0 2 247 (WSW) 43 Clear none 06:01 43 0 1 244 (WSW) 59 Clear none 07:01 42 0 2 213 (SSW) 58 Clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
