Seeing was moderate to poor due to winds from the North East. At 20:00 the observer remarked the star he slewed to was not in the field. I checked the magnasenor readings and found 2 bad readings. I took the telescope, did some large altitude slews and turned it back over to Don. At 00:30 Don turned the observing over to Paule. After a focus check the seeing had improved greatly. The North East winds were giving the Sloanies terrible seeing but being elevated above the ridge seemed to help us greatly. We had more than two times as good seeing because of this. At 04:05 we switched programs, refocused and started observing Venus. Seeing was poor at around 2 arcseconds or worse. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:16 Echelle -50(-559) 83 64 0.3/-0.2 15 17 nd1 1.51 20:10 Echelle 0(-474) 169 40 0.1/-0.9 25 20 nd1 1.80 00:50 Echelle 43(-517) 226 55 -1.2/-1.6 66 6 nd2 1.11 04:19 Echelle 67(-421) 118 37 -0.4/-1.4 16 24 nd2 1.92 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 33 15 7 26 (NNE) 37 clear none 17:01 31 20 15 20 (NNE) 60 clear none 18:01 32 -1 17 27 (NNE) 24 clear none 19:01 32 -5 17 13 (NNE) 4 clear none 20:01 32 -4 18 17 (NNE) 6 clear none 21:01 33 -11 10 349 (NNW) 5 clear none 22:01 30 5 23 38 (NE) 18 clear none 23:01 30 4 16 18 (NNE) 28 clear none 00:01 31 -4 10 24 (NNE) 26 clear none 01:01 29 1 6 1 (N) 20 clear none 02:01 29 6 11 17 (NNE) 18 clear none 03:01 30 5 17 4 (N) 15 clear none 04:01 31 0 15 15 (NNE) 15 clear none 05:01 31 3 21 357 (N) 15 clear none 06:01 30 0 24 14 (NNE) 1 clear none 07:01 33 -1 13 14 (NNE) 11 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
