He had some difficulty with using Remark at his end that with Craig Loomis' help was resolved in no time. Seeing at the beginning of the night was moderate to poor making focusing difficult. About 19:20 the observer mentioned he slewed to a good position and there was no object. I checked the magnasensor readings and found that this was indeed the problem. I took the telescope did 2 long slews in elevation and gave it back to the observer who reported the pointing was resolved, the telescope pointed properly to his field when he slewed back. At 20:45 the humidity spiked and visible fog could be seen approaching. I then closed. Second Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Humidity dropped before midnight, too late to be useful to the first half observer but in time to get everything ready for second half. Skies were apparently clear but not photometric, although it was difficult to be certain due to frost on the cloud camera. We had another bout of humidity that kept us closed for a couple of hours, and then we were able to reopen. However, the disruption of his observing plan and the need for long exposures prevented the observer from being able to make use of the last half hour of the night. I took the opportunity to get some Shack-Hartmann measurements until thick clouds, invisible on the satellite picture, moved in just after 06:00. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:34 Echelle -75(-503) 100 57 0.5/1.1 208 9 clear 1.76 01:35 Echelle 19(-490) 181 69 1.0/-0.1 239 5 Clear 1.04 05:47 S-H -30(931) 231 62 0.9/0.2 267 8 - good --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 40 17 10 266 (W) 123 Clear None 17:01 35 21 11 228 (SW) 179 Clear None 18:01 32 20 13 213 (SSW) 210 Clear None 19:01 34 18 16 217 (SW) 236 Clear None 20:01 33 22 10 189 (S) 267 prtly cldy None 21:01 33 30 14 181 (S) 265 prtly cldy None 22:01 32 29 8 188 (S) 217 prtly cldy None 23:01 32 28 6 177 (S) 268 Clear None 00:01 34 21 9 216 (SW) 200 clear none 01:01 34 23 6 236 (SW) 135 clear none 02:01 34 25 6 247 (WSW) 158 clear none 03:01 33 29 7 267 (W) 195 clear none 04:01 34 29 7 266 (W) 220 clear none 05:01 34 25 5 270 (W) 178 clear none 06:01 34 27 7 263 (W) 180 cloudy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
