After opening under what turned out to be a sucker hole, we started S-H observations only to find the pointing to be pretty bad, preventing us from centering any stars at all on the S-H monitor. With only ~20 min left in the PU04 block, we decided to focus and hand the remainder of the time over to Bart, but then the clouds moved back in. At 21:15 we closed, fearing the rising humidity indicated a chance of rain. Opened again just after 22:30 as skies cleared up again. Closed again just short of midnight when the clouds thickened up again. Second half was mostly cloudly with the humidity creeping up throughout. Bart finally called it a night at 04:35 given the minimal chances for improvement in conditions. Earlier in the night, after closing around midnight, we noticed an odd, unfamiliar humming sound evidently coming from within the mirror cell itself. It sounded somewhat like the noise emitted from a stuck motor, but it was impossible to tell that for sure. By closing time, it had stopped. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 22:40 DISslit -100(785) 275 46 13.0/14.4 80 11 - 1.35 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 60 45 11 60 (ENE) 231 PtlyCldy none 17:01 62 44 9 85 (E) 175 MstlyCldy none 18:01 60 44 8 79 (ENE) 251 MstlyCldy none 19:01 58 47 14 70 (ENE) 327 PtlyCldy none 20:01 57 48 15 64 (ENE) 307 PtlyCldy none 21:01 57 48 8 84 (E) 334 PtlyCldy none 22:01 57 47 8 85 (E) 361 MstlyCldy none 23:01 55 48 10 82 (E) 326 MstlyClr none 00:01 54 48 10 111 (ESE) 281 PtlyCldy none 01:01 56 47 2 294 (WNW) 284 MstlyCldy none 02:01 54 47 5 182 (S) 236 MstlyCldy none 03:01 54 48 10 218 (SW) 188 PtlyCldy none 04:01 53 48 2 254 (WSW) 249 PtlyCldy none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
