Initial hints of clearing were stifled, but a little after 21:15 things cleared up, we focused, and the observers began their program. At 22:30, the observers reported that one of the four GRIM quadrants was failing to read out, similar to the problem Jack experienced a few nights ago. Attempts at the canonical solution of power cyling resulted in two then three quadrants failing. Around 23:05, running out of ideas, we elected to wait a short while until Russet showed up for her shift, after having failed to reach her by phone. She arrived at about 23:15 and suggested continuing to power cycle. Two more attempts and we had all 4 quadrants back. After that problem was fixed, it was back to dealing with cloud cover. Skies remained partly cloudy for the duration of first half. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half had some clouds but was clear much of the time. Seeing was excellent, at least on GRIM. Everything behaved perfectly after the brief excitement of the lost quads. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CU01 G I/H 22:25 23:25 GRIM dropped 3 quadrants ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:29 GrIm2(f/5) 25(822) 207 67 12.4/13.5 81 15 J 1.33 00:19 GrIm2(f/5) 125(856) 219 77 12.3/12.3 90 9 J 0.87 03:30 GrIm2(f/5) 140(901) 168 70 13.4/12.8 342 1 J 0.66 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 56 48 11 86 (E) 216 ptly cldy none 17:01 52 48 15 83 (E) 187 ptly cldy none 18:01 54 47 13 116 (ESE) 291 ptly cldy none 19:01 56 47 14 110 (ESE) 256 ptly cldy none 20:01 56 45 15 83 (E) 257 ptly cldy none 21:01 55 44 13 85 (E) 250 mstly clr none 22:01 54 44 16 81 (E) 245 ptly cldy none 23:01 54 45 12 85 (E) 290 ptly cldy none 00:01 54 45 9 88 (E) 326 ptly cldy none 01:01 55 42 10 78 (ENE) 365 mstly clr none 02:01 58 40 3 341 (NNW) 267 mstly clr none 03:01 56 41 2 321 (NW) 311 mstly clr none 04:01 56 42 1 330 (NNW) 371 clear none 05:01 54 41 6 0 (N) 383 clear none 06:01 56 41 7 318 (NW) 330 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
