Dembicky Jeff Morgan was busy putting the finishing touches on SPIcam to have it up and running during checkout. I started the cooling fans around 18:00. Jeff finished up with SPIcam around 19:30 as I was finishing my DIS calibrations. We used the PU04 time to test SPIcam instead of getting Shack-Hartmann Data, since getting SPIcam back online is of a higher priority. I mounted SPIcam and opened the enclosure around 20:00 and we got our first star image out of the camera around 20:10. I did a quick dofocus to make sure that routine worked. Then went to take another in focus image to find a blank field. A quick check of the cloudcam showed that clouds had moved overhead (Whew!). After about 10 minutes and a slew to another part of the sky we successfully imaged an in focus star. In the remaining minute I slewed the telescope over to a galaxy cluster (Stephen's Quintet) and took a 30 second image in V. Sucess!!! Private e-mails were also set to tonights observers to let them use SPIcam, if they desired, for further checkout. Clouds came and went thru the night. We shut down for about 1 hr during the 2nd half when the cloud cover got too thick. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:05 SPIcam -70(1059) 110 58 14.0/16.7 258 5 V 0.87 20:39 DIS -150(830) 282 53 14.1/15.9 202 4 none 0.98 20:47 NA2gdr 32(54032) 283 51 14.1/15.7 208 5 R 0.82 00:58 DISslit 80(966) 204 49 13.3/13.3 203 14 none 1.00 01:04 NA2gdr 100(54100) 205 49 13.4/13.4 208 14 R 1.00 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 64 27 2 269 (W) 226 Mst.
