Kevin logged in for cals just after 20:00, for which I closed the enclosure. Back on sky at 21:20. Shortly thereafter the seeing took a dive as the winds picked up and shifted around to the east, bringing up the humdity and dust. That settled down again around 23:00. Smooth sailing from then on with a little passing cloud. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half had poor seeing (1.5-2 arcsec), occasional clouds, and a thunderstorm passing to our southeast in the radar blind spot. Nevertheless, we were able to remain open and take data almost the entire time. At one point we apparently managed to overload the TCC with too many calculations at once, and it stopped tracking; this happened right at the end of an exposure, however, and cost no observing time. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:34 DISslit -50(896) 221 37 13.7/14.1 183 16 - 1.06 21:37 NA2gdr 0(57000) 222 37 13.8/14.1 180 16 R 0.74 23:07 DISslit -100(740) 268 43 10.9/12.4 154 24 - 1.37 23:11 NA2gdr -2558(54441) 268 43 10.9/12.2 153 19 R 1.47 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 65 34 16 191 (S) 1173 MstlyClr none 17:01 63 34 22 193 (SSW) 1018 MstlyClr none 18:01 64 34 16 195 (SSW) 1138 MstlyClr none 19:01 60 29 20 233 (SW) 1468 MstlyClr none 20:01 56 30 16 227 (SW) 1789 MstlyClr none 21:01 57 32 13 194 (SSW) 1867 MstlyClr none 22:01 55 38 18 170 (S) 1430 MstlyClr none 23:01 52 38 25 149 (SSE) 2379 MstlyClr none 00:01 54 41 28 207 (SSW) 1318 MstlyClr none 01:01 51 40 16 176 (S) 2439 ptlycldy none 02:01 53 35 18 181 (S) 1932 ptlycldy none 03:01 51 36 21 206 (SSW) 1849 ptlycldy none 04:01 50 37 16 202 (SSW) 1282 mstlyclr none 05:01 48 36 21 197 (SSW) 1381 ptlycldy none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
