The dust hovered above the limit for a large portion of the night. I did close a couple of times for outlying dust spikes, but for the most part I pushed it because these engineering tasks have been waiting for some months. I adjusted the fans to try to minimize the dust inside the dome. We started out with pinhole images of the new prototype light baffle for SPIcam, which appeared quite successful. These were interrupted twice by dust closures, and some of the measurements were repeated after the sky cleared. Then, using some data obtained from the pointing models taken last night, I adjusted the tertiary sag coefficients for the echelle and took another echelle pointing model as a check. Lastly, I switched to the Shack-Hartmann, adjusted the tertiary tilts for that instrument (without sag coefficients) and took a few quick exposures, made more interesting by the fact that the fans had been set for high dust conditions all night. The dust dropped and I did turn the fans back on to see what effect they had on the image, but soon afterward the humidity began to rise and I had to close. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 54 38 13 237 (WSW) 1865 cirrus none 17:01 55 34 7 250 (WSW) 1635 cirrus none 18:01 53 30 10 260 (W) 1487 cirrus none 19:01 53 32 9 267 (W) 1321 cirrus none 20:01 50 29 10 289 (WNW) 1676 cirrus none 21:01 50 29 11 277 (W) 2788 cirrus none 22:01 51 28 10 274 (W) 3510 cirrus none 23:01 51 28 7 265 (W) 3550 ptly cldy none 00:01 51 28 8 245 (WSW) 3448 cirrus none 01:01 51 28 13 235 (SW) 3690 clear none 02:01 50 28 11 204 (SSW) 3827 clear none 03:01 50 27 11 194 (SSW) 3648 clear none 04:01 49 34 14 181 (S) 3821 clear none 05:01 49 39 15 190 (S) 2729 clear none 06:01 46 43 24 209 (SSW) 2552 clear fog note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
