The wind was dropping rapdily and dust seemed to follow it as twilight went on. But the dust got me, of course, a round of flats into the series, so I closed up at 20:20. We opened again just after 21:30 when the dust abated. Chris observed some Messier objects to impress the folks at UW for Astronomy Day, then moved on to imaging Kuiper belt objects. Seeing varied around 1.2 arcsec. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half had occasional cirrus and moderate to poor seeing, noticeably worse when we were pointed into the wind. Despite the passing clouds, the observers managed to get good spectra of a number of objects, and everything went very smoothly. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG/INST/FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O/TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:56 SPIcam 50(755) 171 67 5.6/7.8 267 20 V 1.07 22:20 NA2gdr -3273(57726) 88 58 5.5/6.7 284 25 clear 1.06 01:11 DISslit 50(466) 122 78 3.9/4.3 302 20 - 1.05 01:13 NA2gdr -2546(54453) 123 78 3.8/4.4 302 20 R 1.16 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 52 8 30 262 (W) 2156 MstlyClr dust 17:01 51 8 26 267 (W) 3195 MstlyClr dust 18:01 53 10 30 248 (WSW) 3309 MstlyClr dust 19:01 50 7 11 271 (W) 3047 MstlyClr dust 20:01 45 3 22 276 (W) 7603 MstlyClr dust 21:01 43 1 22 270 (W) 4298 MstlyClr dust 22:01 42 -1 17 264 (W) 2156 MstlyClr none 23:01 42 -2 21 272 (W) 1283 MstlyClr none 00:01 41 -3 21 292 (WNW) 1591 MstlyClr none 01:01 39 -4 16 302 (WNW) 1454 MstlyClr none 02:01 39 -4 13 303 (WNW) 1040 cirrus none 03:01 40 -5 20 293 (WNW) 996 cirrus none 04:01 40 -6 9 272 (W) 588 cirrus none 05:01 40 -8 22 302 (WNW) 952 cirrus none 06:01 39 -7 8 263 (W) 801 mstly clr none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
