I adapted DIS II's slit mask wheel to hold some narrow band filters for a CU project, and switched the 2.0" slit into this new wheel as well. After some bias images, we opened at 18:30 MST to cool and start sky flats with the narrow bands. First program was quite exotic in that they imaged with DIS, with narrow band filters and also used in spec mode. Lots of focus data was taken and focus offsets determined. Also, tested window mode on DIS extensively with good results. There were some odd reflection (known) to be looked at, as they were good representations of the optics issues. Tonight we also saw the "0-second object exposure" bug pop up, but in a slightly new way. The observer tried a 0.20 second exposure, and it seemed to have the same effect, immediately crashing Remark on his end and on mine. :) Then as soon as we restarted and he sent another exposure of 1.0 seconds which immediately crashed my Remark, but not his. Odd.... Craig and I worked on this extensively and I ended up having to run 2.80b instead of 2.81b or 2.82 due to the crashing issues. I again saw the PMSS oscillate when we were below about 37 degrees in the west. I slewed up and back down again and it stopped. We continued to track down without any more occurrences. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half was phenomenally peaceful. Clear skies, mediocre seeing, and everything worked perfectly. No appearance of the April comet was noted. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG/INST/FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O/TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CU04/D I/S 21:06 21:50 0-second DIS bug with 0.2 sec exp! Lots of off/on failures during this time, Craig and I worked on it. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:00 DISII-MirR 0(???) 94 79 9.5/11.9 177 14 6731 1.08 19:15 DISII-MirR -100(615) 99 83 9.3/11.3 179 13 5893 1.16 19:19 DISII-MirR -100(615) 100 83 9.3/11.3 179 15 6731 1.14 19:23 DISII-MirR 0(703) 100 84 9.3/11.1 180 13 - 1.17 19:31 DISII-Slit -125(???) 105 85 9.1/10.9 195 11 - 0.98 19:34 DISII-MirR -125(???) 105 85 9.0/11.0 187 12 - 1.41 19:34 DISII-MirB -125(???) 105 85 9.0/11.0 187 12 - 1.31 19:36 DISII-MirR 0(684) 106 87 8.9/10.5 204 15 - 1.09 19:36 DISII-MirB 0(684) 106 87 8.9/10.5 204 15 - 1.87 23:35 DISslit 0(594) 97 74 8.5/8.4 197 14 - 1.22 23:35 NA2gdr -3000(54000) 97 74 8.5/8.4 197 14 R 1.05 00:16 Echelle 69(-209) -12 54 8.3/8.2 198 14 clear 1.59 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 57 26 9 258 (WSW) 363 mstly clr none 17:01 56 27 13 233 (SW) 391 mstly clr none 18:01 51 27 12 183 (S) 505 mstly clr none 19:01 48 25 13 179 (S) 516 clear none 20:01 48 26 13 202 (SSW) 450 clear none 21:01 48 27 12 197 (SSW) 512 clear none 22:01 48 23 13 187 (S) 542 clear none 23:01 48 22 12 179 (S) 656 clear none 00:01 46 24 16 197 (SSW) 522 clear none 01:01 47 21 13 187 (S) 674 clear none 02:01 47 19 10 207 (SSW) 729 clear none 03:01 47 19 9 182 (S) 745 clear none 04:01 47 19 10 188 (S) 786 clear none 05:01 46 20 9 204 (SSW) 942 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
