By pointing directly at the full moon, we were able to confirm that the new baffling causes only minimal vignetting at the very top of the guider, but we couldn't test the effectiveness of the baffles in abating scattered light with pinhole tests. Even a pointing model, the least weather-sensitive of the tasks scheduled for the night, turned out to be impossible. Some software work and testing was accomplished while the telescope was closed. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG/INST FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 55 9 13 262 (W) 815 cirrus none 17:01 51 5 23 254 (WSW) 820 mstly cldy none 18:01 48 2 21 242 (WSW) 879 mstly cldy none 19:01 48 2 22 237 (WSW) 852 cloudy none 20:01 47 1 13 254 (WSW) 774 cloudy none 21:01 49 3 13 264 (W) 686 cloudy none 22:01 49 3 14 273 (W) 841 cloudy none 23:01 48 2 10 259 (W) 793 cloudy none 00:01 47 1 8 246 (WSW) 943 cloudy none 01:01 47 1 7 264 (W) 970 cloudy none 02:01 47 2 8 266 (W) 933 cloudy none 03:01 46 1 10 288 (WNW) 818 cloudy none 04:01 46 0 10 296 (WNW) 541 cloudy none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
