The fire season has started early with a large wildfire in Ruidoso that had consumed over 3000 acres and 33 homes at 6 this evening. No smoke in this area as winds were blowing away from us, but that could change. When winds did die down enough to open we had mostly clear skies and moderate temps. UW again used some of first half time tonight. Sadly, as soon as Anthony showed up dust spiked again and I had to close. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Dust levels dropped below the limit again near midnight, so I opened and let the UW observer sit on an interesting object for many hours. Cirrus early on became thicker clouds after 04:00, and seeing was moderate to bad (1.2-3 arcsec). ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG/INST FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:41 SPIcam 0(905) 107 30 8.5/9.7 232 23 r' 1.23 00:30 SPIcam -200(472) 155 58 5.0/6.8 265 14 r' 1.45 00:33 NA2gdr 819(61819) 157 59 4.9/6.5 261 15 R 1.23 01:38 SPIcam -100(497) 189 60 4.3/5.1 244 15 r' 1.44 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 54 9 19 241 (WSW) 2025 mstly clr dusty 17:01 52 9 31 261 (W) 5312 mstly clr dusty 18:01 50 11 24 243 (WSW) 4163 mstly clr dusty 19:01 47 8 19 245 (WSW) 2518 mstly clr dusty 20:01 46 9 27 234 (SW) 1035 mstly clr dusty 21:01 46 10 17 258 (WSW) 421 mstly clr none 22:01 44 11 18 244 (WSW) 3516 mstly clr dusty 23:01 42 13 28 236 (SW) 3725 mstly clr dusty 00:01 41 13 12 251 (WSW) 1595 cirrus none 01:01 39 14 14 257 (WSW) 855 cirrus none 02:01 39 16 12 261 (W) 553 cirrus none 03:01 38 15 22 248 (WSW) 375 cirrus none 04:01 37 17 20 268 (W) 295 ptly cldy none 05:01 35 17 17 257 (WSW) 343 mstly cldy none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
