Startup went smoothly until we found a Remark bug (maybe) that was causing a lot of crashes with 2.81b. Appears to be something with how the MC handles DIS exposures and what gets sent to Remark. Craig looked at it and will troubleshoot it Friday during the day. It did not cause us to lose any time. Once we got past that, things went well. Focus was oddly negative though, but seeing decent although turbulent. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan At 23:35, for the first time in memory, /export/images ran out of disk space due to the large number of DIS engineering images which were taken during the past week. The few photons that got through the clouds for the last spectrum were lost in cyberspace, and the first half observers decided to give up early. Then there was a slight bobble in getting the new MC software to communicate properly with the echelle, so the second half observer ended up starting right on time instead of early. But he really wasn't able to get anything through the clouds before we closed at 00:30 due to rising dust levels. We re-opened at 01:40 when the clouds improved and the dust dropped a little, although it continued to bounce around near the limit for a while. The clouds also continued to be troublesome but permitted a few photons to pass through. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG/INST FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NM05/D I/S 23:30 00:10 /export/images full, echelle comm. problem ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:20 DIS Slit -400(220) 216 45 5.3/7.0 143 15 - 1.13 19:24 NA2 Gdr -4000(50997) 217 45 5.4/6.9 134 15 R 1.19 21:17 DIS Slit -100(355) 219 52 3.5/4.7 143 8 - 1.11 21:26 NA2 Gdr -3000(53638) 116 67 3.5/4.6 150 7 R 0.98 01:43 Echelle 90(-338) 209 43 2.2/3.0 170 13 ND1 1.42 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 51 14 5 258 (WSW) 484 clear none 17:01 46 15 17 146 (SE) 439 cirrus none 18:01 41 22 8 85 (E) 758 cirrus none 19:01 40 7 15 135 (SE) 629 cirrus none 20:01 40 1 12 151 (SSE) 450 cirrus none 21:01 40 -3 9 134 (SE) 284 cirrus none 22:01 39 -1 13 144 (SE) 325 cirrus none 23:01 38 7 17 149 (SSE) 945 ptly cldy none 00:01 39 8 18 174 (S) 1477 ptly cldy none 01:01 37 12 19 176 (S) 1576 ptly cldy none 02:01 37 13 16 179 (S) 1761 ptly cldy none 03:01 37 15 17 184 (S) 1124 ptly cldy none 04:01 36 16 10 166 (SSE) 1022 ptly cldy none 05:01 38 16 18 182 (S) 608 ptly cldy none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
