Seeing was good early on but seemed to get worse as time went on. Otherwise everything was okay. No weird DIS turret behavior, thankfully. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan At the end of first half, there was a slight delay when the observer slewed to a standard and the primary mirror didn't relax after the long azimuth move. I moved the telescope up and then down again, and it was fine. The telescope was turned over right on time and everything appeared to be going well until one of the observers realized that the arcs had the wrong dispersion. It appeared that the turret hadn't moved at all from the first observer's position, even though it was correctly commanded and claimed to be in the right place. I called Craig up, and after multiple homes and carefully-checked moves we gave the instrument back to the observers in the correct configuration at 01:07. Once the gratings were in the right place, everything else went well. We had clear skies all night and reasonably good seeing (0.9-1.2 arcsec) except at high airmasses. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG/INST FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NM05/D T/H 00:00 00:05 PMSS T cell needed relaxing UC06/D I/H 00:10 01:07 DIS turret move failed ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:30 DISslit -200(297) 142 77 4.9/6.3 348 3 - 0.98 19:46 NA2gdr -4716(52283) 158 79 4.3/6.0 317 1 R 0.94 00:29 DISslit 150(567) 305 68 6.2/4.4 104 0 - 1.13 00:39 NA2gdr -3000(54000) 303 66 5.9/4.5 15 2 clear 1.05 01:49 DISslit 100(612) 309 34 6.6/4.4 12 4 - 1.40 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 45 17 9 294 (WNW) 475 Clear none 17:01 45 16 8 264 (W) 435 Clear none 18:01 41 14 6 247 (WSW) 496 Clear none 19:01 40 12 0 156 (SSE) 572 Clear none 20:01 40 9 2 329 (NNW) 575 Clear none 21:01 39 9 0 347 (NNW) 502 Clear none 22:01 41 8 1 3 (N) 482 Clear none 23:01 41 5 1 112 (ESE) 468 Clear none 00:01 44 -3 0 196 (SSW) 350 clear none 01:01 42 -5 1 358 (N) 277 clear none 02:01 43 -3 9 33 (NNE) 192 clear none 03:01 43 -2 14 78 (ENE) 167 clear none 04:01 41 -3 8 125 (SE) 203 clear none 05:01 41 -3 9 108 (ESE) 210 clear none 06:01 42 -2 9 82 (E) 206 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
