That was short lived though. I no more than got the instrument focused and started on the guide camera when the clouds moved back in. Things again looked promising around 03:45 when I was able to focus the instrument again, but it was just a sucker hole and evaporated about 5 mins later (before I could finish the guider focus). Again around 04:25 the clouds started to appear to break again, but it was marginal at best for observing. The observer had already went home (He was 5 mins away) and with less than 1hr ob observing time and just marginal conditions (which seemed to be changing rapidly previously in the evening) I decided that the conditions were not favorable for any quality science to be taken in the remaining minutes left of the night. Around 05:00 the clouds came back so it was a wise choice to not bother the observer for a few minutes of marginal conditions. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG/INST FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 00:45 DISslit -30(307) 128 44 -0.2/0.2 214 13 none 1.21 03:45 DISslit -50(175) 200 56 -1.2/-1.2 262 17 none 1.43 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 37 2 25 222 (SW) 828 Clouds none 17:01 35 -1 24 231 (SW) 770 Clouds none 18:01 34 0 17 228 (SW) 644 Clouds none 19:01 32 0 18 202 (SSW) 777 Clouds none 20:01 33 0 18 202 (SSW) 696 Clouds none 21:01 34 -2 20 205 (SSW) 686 Clouds none 22:01 34 -4 22 197 (SSW) 1620 Clouds dust 23:01 33 -5 18 202 (SSW) 1289 Clouds none 00:01 31 -6 19 200 (SSW) 1063 Clouds none 01:01 31 -6 13 194 (SSW) 1017 Clouds none 02:01 31 -5 13 227 (SW) 799 Clouds none 03:01 30 -4 14 224 (SW) 679 Clouds none 04:01 30 -4 17 257 (WSW) 776 Clouds none 05:01 30 -4 12 266 (W) 690 Clouds none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
