UW and NMSU agreed to take over the time with other instruments. There was a lot of progress made with DIS today and during the first half program a lot of 'in the background' engineering went on. A lot was learned and the DIS team stated that an hour of time during the night could save 6 or more hours tomorrow, which might mean getting on the sky or not. I called the UW people and they agreed to hop off the telescope early. I accounted the time as EN01 time and we had 1.5 hours to test the blue camera. Other than that, all ran smoothly, decent seeing under light cirrus skies. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: Russet McMillan During the mid-evening interim, visiting and site staff got the DIS blue detector reasonably well focused, then handed the telescope over right at the change time. We re-focused SPIcam and started observations for the second half, and everything went very smoothly. Seeing was good to moderate (0.9-1.3 arcsec at reasonable airmasses), and the weather was almost clear but perhaps not quite photometric. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG/INST FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:10 SPIcam 200(1049) -138 48 8.4/9.9 263 9 r' 0.76 19:20 NA2 Gdr 1162(64999) -140 48 8.5/9.5 266 12 R 0.78 21:50 SPIcam 100(????) 148 48 7.1/7.6 225 12 r' 1.23 00:27 SPIcam 100(764) 194 75 7.8/7.1 264 17 V 0.95 00:30 NA2gdr 606(61606) 198 75 7.9/7.1 264 19 R 1.01 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 50 6 17 294 (WNW) 139 cirrus none 17:01 51 8 13 294 (WNW) 176 cirrus none 18:01 48 7 9 267 (W) 164 cirrus none 19:01 46 6 11 263 (W) 320 cirrus none 20:01 47 6 19 238 (WSW) 406 cirrus none 21:01 46 6 15 231 (SW) 272 cirrus none 22:01 46 8 15 232 (SW) 201 lt cirrus none 23:01 46 9 12 258 (WSW) 183 mstly clr none 00:01 45 8 13 251 (WSW) 170 clear none 01:01 46 8 13 262 (W) 142 clear none 02:01 46 7 9 275 (W) 177 clear none 03:01 46 6 18 273 (W) 174 clear none 04:01 45 6 16 276 (W) 238 clear none 05:01 45 6 14 287 (WNW) 283 clear none 06:01 45 6 17 294 (WNW) 217 mstly clr none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
