Barentine Due to the success of last night's DD time for observations of the hypernova in M74, tonight's scheduled DD time was given to the Colorado observers. We opened the enclosure around 17:00 to cool; skies were mostly clear with some light cirrus. We were on sky immediately after sunset for twilight sky flats. Seeing started out subarcsecond shortly after sunset but grew worse as the night progressed. Temperature changes also required several refocusing attempts with SPICam. Otherwise all ran quietly. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: Russet McMillan Second half remained clear and apparently photometric, but seeing deteriorated steadily to worse than 3 arcseconds as the wind speeds increased. The precipitation sensor was triggered by blowing snow when the gusts reached 30 mph, then at 04:30 we closed due to wind speed over the limit. We tried re-opening when the wind dropped briefly, but obtained no data before the gusts spiked again. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG/INST FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:52 SPIcam 25(485) 25 67 2.3/2.4 249 16 R 0.98 19:10 NA2gdr -169(60830) 18 69 2.0/2.1 258 14 R 1.30 20:26 SPIcam 140(621) 12 46 2.1/1.6 278 12 R 1.41 21:56 NA2gdr 3222(64222) 144 68 0.6/1.1 274 16 Clear 1.51 22:33 SPIcam 80(485) 157 60 0.7/0.9 294 18 V 1.85 02:42 SPIcam 0(340) 164 58 -1.8/-0.7 5 10 I 2.61 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 39 7 9 261 (W) 87 Clear none 17:01 38 12 17 264 (W) 95 Clear none 18:01 36 9 14 265 (W) 118 Clear none 19:01 36 8 18 264 (W) 231 Clear none 20:01 35 6 16 270 (W) 319 Clear none 21:01 35 5 11 269 (W) 427 Clear none 22:01 33 8 12 275 (W) 331 Clear none 23:01 33 6 14 289 (WNW) 242 Clear none 00:01 33 6 15 277 (W) 259 clear none 01:01 33 5 13 300 (WNW) 355 clear none 02:01 31 8 17 319 (NW) 332 clear none 03:01 27 2 18 13 (NNE) 640 clear blown snow 04:01 24 6 29 21 (NNE) 625 clear none 05:01 23 4 24 7 (N) 447 clear none 06:01 21 -1 34 12 (NNE) 460 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
