All systems worked well, and I was able to open the telescope for cooling at 15:30 MST. I began the night taking echelle calibrations for the DD03 program. After those were complete I allowed the UC observer to get some bias images in before the DD03 program started. Weather was beautiful, but when we began to acquire the first object with the echelle we ran into a bug with the TCC. After manually checking pointing we got things rolling about 20 mins late, but still before scheduled twilight. Also, the schedules on the web are incorrect for the DD03 program. Ed has sent email about it, but the true time is from twilight +2 hrs. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: Russet McMillan Second half went very smoothly. Clear and apparently photometric weather, variable seeing reaching moderately good values at times (1-2 arcsec). Both programs got lots of nice data, and the telescope was perfectly behaved right down to its minimum altitude. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG/INST FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- DD03/E T/S 16:18 16:32 fails on echelle ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:20 Echelle 150(-396) 250 54 0.8/1.5 274 3 Clear 1.76 20:34 DIS Slit 75( 363) 221 62 0.7/0.5 207 1 none 0.92 20:41 NA2 Gdr 212(57220) 221 63 0.3/0.6 208 1 Clear 0.81 00:31 DISslit 75(256) 44 75 0.9/-0.8 254 8 - 1.5 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 38 7 7 249 (WSW) 64 clear none 17:01 31 9 2 237 (WSW) 83 clear none 18:01 33 -5 5 275 (W) 41 clear none 19:01 33 -8 3 267 (W) 63 clear none 20:01 33 -8 4 263 (W) 61 clear none 21:01 33 -10 2 182 (S) 42 clear none 22:01 32 -7 6 182 (S) 43 lt cirrus none 23:01 33 -8 5 259 (W) 28 clear none 00:01 30 -8 3 225 (SW) 29 clear none 01:01 33 -16 6 250 (WSW) 32 clear none 02:01 33 -22 9 269 (W) 37 clear none 03:01 34 -15 11 283 (WNW) 21 clear none 04:01 34 -18 7 303 (WNW) 25 clear none 05:01 34 -8 12 271 (W) 28 clear none 06:01 33 -8 11 267 (W) 18 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
