The seeing was somewhat better than last night, at least in the beginning; during the hour or so from 20:00 to 21:00 we were down to about 1 arcsecond even, but after 21:00 it blew up to near 2. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan The second half observers elected to use DIS for a couple of hours to get a few last spectra before the instrument is taken apart for the upgrade. They had limited success, however, because the seeing was rather poor and windshake caused some additional troubles. So we switched over to GRIM at 02:00. There was some difficulty pointing with GRIM at first, until I cleared out the accumulated guider offsets from the DIS observations and made a pointing correction. After that, everything went very smoothly. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG/INST FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:10 DISslit -20(486) 143 62 5.2/6.0 27 16 - 1.12 19:15 NA2gdr -174(56825) 146 63 5.2/6.0 357 9 R 1.29 21:04 DISslit -20(405) 208 64 4.0/4.2 353 15 - 1.16 02:18 GrIm2(f/10) 115(487) -34 51 2.9/2.3 346 15 J 0.83 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 44 -10 12 328 (NNW) 286 Clear none 17:01 46 -7 15 311 (NW) 335 Clear none 18:01 42 -9 7 316 (NW) 408 Clear none 19:01 40 -12 5 5 (N) 307 Clear none 20:01 40 -11 6 6 (N) 221 Clear none 21:01 40 -9 17 343 (NNW) 151 Clear none 22:01 38 -10 12 333 (NNW) 153 Clear none 23:01 37 -13 9 10 (N) 108 clear none 00:01 39 -16 3 358 (N) 133 clear none 01:01 36 -13 8 350 (N) 170 clear none 02:01 37 -10 15 305 (NW) 122 clear none 03:01 35 -12 7 354 (N) 168 clear none 04:01 34 -15 8 9 (N) 166 clear none 05:01 32 -17 17 6 (N) 182 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
