Finally opened at 18:40 after the winds died down a bit and Mike took some mirror cover flats. Conditions were passable; skies were clear but the seeing stayed up around 1.5-2.0 arcseconds. Despite autoguiding, there is evidence of drift in some of the images. Mike points out one example where the slit drifted with respect to the background (i.e., perpendicular to the slit) by 1.4 arcsec -- approximately equal to the nominal width of the slit -- in about one hour. The autoguider was evidently functioning "normally" during this period; there was no sudden jump to another guide star or anything like that, and the guide star was well away from the position of the slit. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: J.Dembicky Everything ran smoothly with excellent sub arc second seeing in J. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG/INST FAILURE MODE TIME S/E/G/D/O TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:57 DISslit -10(515) 297 76 5.2/6.7 268 19 - 1.82 19:56 NA2gdr -1951(55048) 165 66 4.7/5.3 280 18 R 1.27 00:28 GrIm-f/10 140(538) 343 62 3.3/3.2 327 15 J 0.66 03:44 GrIm-f/10 160(616) 322 41 3.2/2.5 280 10 J 0.71 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 47 2 22 246 (WSW) 445 PtlyCldy none 17:01 44 0 19 263 (W) 1144 PtlyCldy none 18:01 41 -1 26 257 (WSW) 1321 PtlyCldy none 19:01 41 -5 17 277 (W) 2424 PtlyCldy none 20:01 40 -4 22 269 (W) 691 MstlyClr none 21:01 40 -3 10 284 (WNW) 1308 Clear none 22:01 39 -1 13 296 (WNW) 777 Clear none 23:01 38 -1 13 306 (NW) 848 Clear none 00:01 39 0 7 325 (NW) 749 Clear none 01:01 38 0 14 307 (NW) 862 Clear none 02:01 37 2 8 326 (NW) 513 Clear none 03:01 37 3 14 281 (W) 461 Clear none 04:01 37 0 11 295 (WNW) 420 Clear none 05:01 37 -1 13 311 (NW) 379 Clear none 06:01 38 -3 15 274 (W) 345 Clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
