They were able to remove a great deal of it but not all. Therefore we had a special blowing snow closure limits for tonight of telescope temperatures below 32 F and winds below 15mph. I kept a close eye on both and I was able to open for the observer after she did Cals. The sky cleared about 20:45 but wind was at the 15 mph limit with short gusts above this for most of the first half. Seeing was about moderate to good once the clouds parted. Second Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan The windspeed increased very gradually, and by the end of first half we were pushing the new limit, with gusts above 15 mph and sustained speeds approaching 15 mph. I looked around the dome very carefully when I went upstairs for the instrument change, and I found no evidence of snow falling inside. But I did hear ice falling down the outsides of the dome, so I closed up. The wind continued to rise, and after 03:00 it went over the normal wind limit. We were never able to re-open. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:12 DISslit 0(217) 207 49 -5.2/-3.1 9 14 - 1.34 18:14 NA2gdr -1011(51988) 208 48 -5.0/-3.3 4 14 R 0.97 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 24 6 11 343 (NNW) 60 Mstly Cldy None 17:01 23 -8 9 320 (NW) 59 Mstly Cldy None 18:01 23 -5 11 0 (N) 37 Mstly Cldy None 19:01 24 -9 10 336 (NNW) 31 Mstly Cldy None 20:01 24 -5 8 324 (NW) 47 Clear None 21:01 25 -4 9 355 (N) 46 Clear None 22:01 25 -1 11 353 (N) 73 Clear None 23:01 24 0 16 347 (NNW) 55 Clear None 00:01 22 0 22 15 (NNE) 82 clear none 01:01 24 -3 7 28 (NNE) 121 clear none 02:01 24 -10 25 14 (NNE) 144 clear none 03:01 24 -11 22 33 (NNE) 161 clear none 04:01 24 -10 28 13 (NNE) 169 clear none 05:01 24 -7 25 23 (NNE) 114 clear none 06:01 25 1 31 20 (NNE) 106 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
